Hitachi G1000 Pocket PC Phone Edition 2002 from Sprint PCS

Until recently, if you wanted a Pocket PC Phone Edition model in the US, you had one choice: the popular T-Mobile running on GSM networks. Older models like the Toshiba 2032 actually ran Pocket PC 2002 OS with voice and data software from Sierra Wireless added on. Now thanks to Verizon's Samsung i700 and Sprint PCS' Hitachi SH-G1000, we have two excellent choices that run on CDMA networks in the US.

The Hitachi G1000 is the first Pocket PC, let alone Phone Edition, to have an integrated thumb keyboard. Since the days of the RIM Blackberry, thumb keyboards have become the mantra of business users who needed email on the go. Along with the Samsung i700, it's also the first to have an integrated VGA digital camera.

Toshiba Launches Touch Screen Windows Mobile Smartphone

Toshiba_TouchScreen_Windows_Mobile_SmartphoneToshiba Mobile Communications Division has shown off its new Portégé G810, a Windows Mobile based touch-screen handset designed for the business user. The G810 will be available across Europe in Q2 2008. The slim design is just 14mm in depth.

The handset comes with support for both HSDPA and HSUPA along with Wi-Fi, and includes a 3 megapixel camera along with built-in GPS.

Samsung SGH-F700V

The iPhone for instance, may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I don’t know a single hard-bitten hack who has used the device who hasn’t fallen in love with its beautifully-designed GUI and almost perfectly executed touch-screen hardware interface.

Another indication of the popularity of a product is the number of companies and products attempting to copy its key ideas and use them. And the iPhone looks as if it’s going to have a pretty powerful influence here too: 2008 is set to be the year of the touch-screen and Samsung’s F700V is in the vanguard of products looking to knock Apple from its perch.

KTF Ever

Time for a KTF EVER Ev-W270

A South Korean phone maker called KTF Ever rolled out EV-W270 wireless handset for the Korean clientele. The phone is also jammed with contemporary accouterment such as Power SMS, Video Phone, Two Phone Service, SHOW USIM, Mirror Mode and World Roaming service which is a very useful feature to make a call to your associates whenever you're out of town especially if you’re a hard-working business traveler or a filthy rich jet-setter as well.

KTFT's Ever KTF-TR2000 micro "twist" phone for S. Korea, not for you

We've been getting some complaints in the ol' inbox that we've been a little light on the cellphone coverage lately, especially those juicy foreign models that we'll never get our grubby little mitts on. Well don't ever accuse us of being unresponsive to your input, dear readers, because starting with Korean manufacturer KTFT's Ever KTF-TR2000 mini "twist" phone, we solemnly swear to bring you every foreign model announced, released, or just sketched on a cocktail napkin, from here on out. As for the KTF-TR2000, it's a little smurf of a flip phone whose main claim to fame is the 1.9-inch screen that rotates 180 degrees to sit face-up when the phone is closed. Other goodies include a 1.3 megapixel cam, MP3 playback, and PC connectivity. Once again, we're sorry for the dearth of mobile info, and we're gonna do whatever it takes to make it right.

KTF's "Font of Your Own" service makes sending ransom notes a breeze

by Chris Ziegler, posted Jun 11th 2008 at 2:41PM

Gone are the days of meticulously hand-cutting and pasting letters onto sheets of spiral bound lined notepad paper. Thanks to the wonders of modern technology, criminals of all skill levels should be able to boil their carefully crafted ransom notes down to an SMS, which can be received and read by the victim at their convenience. We kid, we kid -- KTF's new "Font of Your Own" service isn't actually designed to support anonymous demands for cash as far as we can tell, but will allow any user of the free service to take pictures of 33 characters with their phone to create a custom font for use in messaging. A PC-based font editor app will also be available for those hardcore font connoisseurs looking to create that perfect typeface for their next mobile communique. And no, if you're outside South Korea, you can't have this, so don't even ask.
